Help Wanted: A Wife

Darcy White can't believe she's answering a help wanted ad from someone looking to hire a wife, but she's hit rock bottom and is on the verge of being evicted from her apartment. When she learns that the guy she had a crush on in high school is the one looking to hire, she'd be crazy not to live out her fantasy.

Steven McDonald needs a wife, or at least a fiancée, before his grandfather retires or else he won't inherit the family business. He knows not just any woman will do, and in a desperate attempt to find a solution, he places a help wanted ad in the local paper. The day Darcy White answers it, his dreams begin to come true.

As Darcy and Steven pretend they're engaged, they make a promise to keep things platonic. But the more time they spend together, the harder it is to keep their hands off one another. With his grandfather's retirement approaching, and the possible end to their fake engagement, can Steven and Darcy admit their feelings to not only themselves but each other?

Will the shame of her mother's betrayal prevent Sara from having her heart's desire?

Sara Martin spent her life longing for two things—less responsibility and the boy next door. When Cade Dalton finally noticed her, she was thrilled. But when he suggested a threesome with his brother, she knew the rumors she'd heard were true—Cade and Reese Dalton shared women, something Sara despised. Her mother had chosen a life of sordid sex with two men over her marriage, leaving a broken ten-year-old girl behind. No way was Sara going down that road. She was happy to comply with Cade's dominant tendencies, but she would not stand for any "sharing" in the relationship.

To her surprise, Cade agreed to give up his lifestyle in order to be with her. He swore to never again bring up the idea of a threesome, insisting that having Sara as his wife—and the Head of Household arrangement they'd come to—was more than enough to make him happy.

But six months into the marriage Sara's brother-in-law was beginning to look mighty fine. She regretted passing on the chance to be between the two sexy Dalton brothers, but after her violent reaction to Cade's suggestion she was too ashamed to admit she had changed her mind. And too ashamed to admit she wanted the same sordid lifestyle her mother had chosen.

Steamy Excerpt – A Heart's Endeavor by Mary Wehr

There are times when it's best to allow your heart to overrule your head.

Being diagnosed with depression not only messed up Melanie Manning's life, but her marriage as well. Her husband made it very clear that he considered her "damaged goods" and he didn't have time to coddle a mentally ill wife. After his sudden death, Melanie knew she was destined to be alone. Loneliness sounded a hell of a lot better than exposing her illness to another man. Her self-esteem couldn't survive another blow.

When state trooper Jack Horan meets Melanie, the attraction is immediate. Her deep blue eyes make him weak in the knees, but those eyes also hold a hint of sadness. Jack is determined to wipe away her pain, but how can he do that when Melanie refuses to let him get close to her?

Can Melanie learn to face her fears and trust her heart in the hands of another man?

Content Warning: some strong language, spanking, and sex play with a piece of fruit wielded by a hot guy in uniform.

* * * * * * * *

Mel's heart beat a furious tattoo all the way home. She couldn't wait to see Jack. The last few hours at work seemed to drag on forever. She pulled into her driveway and saw him leaning against his Durango. His arms were folded over his chest and his legs were crossed at the ankles. He pushed away from the vehicle and was by her side as soon as she switched off the ignition. He opened her car door and held out his hand. Mel placed her hand in his and allowed him to pull her to her feet. He fit his body flush with hers.

Mel basked in the warmth of solid muscle and sinew. He smelled so good and felt even better. She rubbed her lower body against the hard bulge pressing against her belly. A low growl reached her ears. She threw back her head and asked innocently, "Is there a problem, officer?"

Jack narrowed his eyes. "You know damn well there's a problem, young lady." He pushed her gently in front of him and smacked her on the behind. "That's for teasing me." They reached the front door and he drew her to a stop. He cupped her jaw and kissed her mouth. "Hmm, you taste like vanilla." He licked her throat and nibbled at her ear. "All over."

Mel grew hotter by the minute. That smack on her butt had not only warmed her backside, but had the pulse between her legs doing a tango. She angled her head to one side so he had better access to her skin. "All over?" she asked breathlessly.

Jack switched his attentions to her other ear. "Yep, all over, and as a matter of fact, I'd like to reacquaint myself with that taste." He continued to ply her throat with kisses. "I'm hungry." Those two little words sent a pierce of white hot heat to Mel's womb. "Come on, let's go inside. I can't wait to get my hands on you and my mouth on your sweet flesh. Then I want to make love you."

Oh God. Mel fumbled with her keys. Her heart pounded with such force it was a wonder it didn't pop out of her chest. The minute she unlocked the door Jack yanked her inside and backed her against the wall. With one hand he captured both her wrists and pinned them high above her head. He slammed his mouth onto hers and slid his knee between her legs.

A myriad of sensations assaulted her body, but Mel centered her attention on the solid length of muscle wedged against her vagina. She arched her back and pressed closer to his heat.

"That's it, baby." Jack's breath fanned her ear. "Rub that sexy body against mine." He ground his thigh against hers. "Come on, show me how much you want me to make love to you."

Mel's breath came out harsher and harsher at his coarse language. Higher and higher she climbed. "Oh God, Jack. I'm coming." She let out a wail as a wash of fluid flooded her panties. Her knees buckled, and she would have fallen if not for Jack's strong arm around her waist.

He hurried her into the kitchen and pulled her shirt over her head. With nimble fingers he unhooked her bra and cupped her breasts. He suckled her nipples. Mel had barely enough strength to lift her arms and lock her fingers around his neck. She held on for dear life as he lavished her breasts with his tongue.

"I have to taste you again, Mel. Please, let me taste you again."

Author Spotlight – Mary Wehr

1) How long have you been writing for the purpose of publication?
Two years. My first story was rejected by two different publishers, so I moved on to writing A Heart's Endeavor. I've learned so much during the editing process. I may go back to my first story and do a rewrite.

2) Is there a certain time of the day that you tend to be more creative?
Late nights work for me. Especially in the summer time.

3) Where is your favorite place to write?
I like to sit in the living room with my laptop. My chair is next to the window. But I may have to move elsewhere, because I get easily distracted by what the animals are doing outside:D

4) Is there a genre you enjoy reading, but would not write?
I enjoy reading western historical 1800s. I'm sure it takes quite a while to do the research. I don't know if I'd have the patience.

5) What advice would you give to a new writer?
I know it's difficult at times, but keep at it and don't give up. There will be rejections, but it only takes one editor to believe in you and your story.

6) Have you ever had writer's block? If so, what do you do about it?
Yes! I don't handle writer's block very well. I get too frustrated with myself. Usually a walk helps or stepping away from the computer for a bit. I learned not to shut off the computer, because sometimes all I have to do is walk away and then a thought hits me and I have to turn it back on.

7) What do you do to relax?
Sitting outside and watching the wildlife relaxes me. In the winter I like to catch up on my reading.

8) Who are some of your favorite authors?
Sandra Hill, Maya Banks and Shayla Black.

9) Chocolate or vanilla, coffee or tea, Coke or Pepsi, dogs or cats, sunrises or sunsets?
Definitely chocolate. I need coffee first thing in the morning or I get grouchy:) I don't drink soda that much, but I prefer Coke. I love dogs, and I like to sit outside and watch the sunset.

A Time to Give Thanks

For those of us in the United States, this week we'll be celebrating Thanksgiving, where we take time to give thanks for all the good things in our lives (and eat lots of food, and for one day we don't worry about how many calories those foods contain).

This year I'm very thankful for the growth and success of our company. I'm thankful for our wonderful authors, who write such great stories. And I'm thankful for our staff—the editors, the cover artists, etc—who work so hard on preparing those stories for publication. But I'm most thankful for you—our readers—because without you, Beachwalk Press wouldn't exist.

I've asked some of our authors to share what they're thankful for this year…

M. A. Stacie: I'm thankful for my hubby and three amazing boys. And my life would be boring without my magnificent friends.

Tamaria Soana: I'm thankful for family and friends!

Ashlynn Monroe: I'm thankful for my family, my friends, and the fact that I'm able to do something I love (writing). There's no better feeling than knowing the thing that makes me happy gives someone else an escape from their everyday worries.

Sidda Lee Tate: I'm thankful for the wonderful support I receive from my family.

Kaylie Newell: This season, I'm thankful for so many things. Family, wonderful friends, our health. I'm also thankful for my brand new writing career—something I've dreamed of since I was knee high to a grasshopper :) I'm thankful for my publisher and amazing editor. And I'm especially thankful for new readers who decided to take a chance and pick up a book by an unknown author this year. Not just my books, but all of my fellow new authors' stories. What a gift that is, and one I'm incredibly lucky to have.

Ella Jade: I have a lot to be thankful for this year. I have a wonderful husband and two beautiful, happy, and healthy children. My boys are my world, and I'm grateful to share my life with them. I'm also appreciative of the readers and friends I've picked up this year through my writing. My stories have always been a hobby. I've been getting lost in my plots and characters for years, but to finally be able to share my creations with all of you as an author is a dream come true. Thank you for taking this journey with me. I wish all of you a happy and blessed Thanksgiving Day.

Pepper Anthony: This year, I am particularly appreciative of my excellent health. Last year I was diagnosed with uterine cancer. I went through surgery, five months of chemo, and some icky radiation treatments. While I did very well with most of the treatments, I did develop what is known as "chemo brain". My thought processes got foggy and my creative flow just kind of dried up. As an artist and writer, that was just about the most distressing part of the whole thing. I was afraid that I might be among the 40% of cancer patients who do not recover their full cognitive abilities following chemo. Happily, that has not been the case. Not only did my recent CT scans show "no evidence of disease", but my mind has fully recovered too. The human body is an amazing, resilient hunk of stuff. This Thanksgiving, celebrate your good health along with me!

Lacey Wolfe: What I'm thankful for has been on my mind a lot lately. And the one thing I keep coming back to is my husband. When we found out I was pregnant with my son (who is now 8), he agreed to let me stay home and raise our children. Both my children are now in school and instead of telling me to go get a job that brings in a steady paycheck, he still lets me stay home and write all day. He never says anything if the house is a mess or the laundry is washed but in dire need of being folded. He listens to me complain as well as gets excited about my accomplishments. I've been with my husband for 11 & 1/2 years and I couldn't imagine spending my life with anyone else.

Mary Wehr: Although I'm thankful for my good health and having a loving, thoughtful husband by my side for the past thirty-three years, this Thanksgiving is going to be very, very special. Beachwalk Press came into my life and my life-long dream of becoming a published author has come true. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

Patricia Bates: Gosh, there's so many things I'm thankful for. My family—including my wonderful son. He's the biggest miracle in my life and a constant source of inspiration and joy. My writing—the ability to share some of my creativity with others. And the fact that I have amazing publishers. I've been truly blessed to have so many wonderful contacts in this industry and I'm extremely thankful for the chances I have.

Stephanie Beck: 2012 brought lots of challenges, but I'm more thankful than ever. This year, I'm especially grateful for:
* My nephew Noah–born five weeks early, but doing great and safe at home with his mama and daddy who love him
* Nine years with my wonderful husband
* My three beautiful, healthy, loving children
* An exciting year of writing–and ambition to make next year even better
* My home with space for my kiddos to grow
* My church family who welcome us every day and share their joys
Happy Thanksgiving!

Tabitha Rayne: I am thankful for the creativity of human beings—seeing or experiencing something that someone has made inspires, sustains, and moves me. I am even more thankful that they share it. I'm thankful for most everything—love, health, joy, and even for the hard times as they make the good times more precious. But most of all, I'm thankful for fizzy astro belts (a very special candy) and good coffee.

Tara Mills: I love Thanksgiving. That’s when my three boys come home for a visit. My husband makes the turkey (a buttery champagne basted, croissant stuffed bird to die for), and I have an excuse to pop the first cork early and make mimosas for breakfast too. We crank the tunes and dance around as soon as there are signs of life from the bedrooms. After two pots of coffee are polished off, someone will suggest playing a game; it could be darts, ping pong, or a lively board game. Later, we'll take a hike through the woods with the three dogs. This year we'll have our new grandson coming up too. He's just four months old now. There's always time for lounging in the living room with your nose in a book or your Nook. We're a family of readers. Or my daughter-in-law will start a crossword puzzle and call out to everyone for help. Finishing becomes a group effort. But our boys have to earn their delicious dinner, and the alcohol that follows, by splitting and stacking firewood first. I love their ruddy cheeks when they come back inside, carrying the fresh clean smell of autumn with them.

And now, we want to know what YOU are thankful for. Everyone who leaves a comment will have their name placed in a drawing. On November 30th we will randomly draw four names, and those people will win a Beachwalk Press eBook of their choice. So don’t be shy—tell us what you’re thankful for!
