Author Spotlight – Ciara Lake
1) What is your writing schedule like?
I try to write after work during the weekdays. It's fun for me, like watching a movie. I unwind by writing. I write on the weekends too. I write whenever I have free time.
2) Where is your favorite place to write?
I like to write at the kitchen table with a cup of coffee.
3) What type of environment do you prefer when you write? (ie complete silence, background music, etc)
I need noise. I often have the television on when I write or I listen to soothing music. I like soft jazz.
4) What is the most difficult or challenging thing for you as a writer?
Sometimes managing my time can be difficult. I'm an attorney and when I'm bogged down with trial work, I have trouble with everything, like the promotion work involved in writing. When I'm immersed in trial all else is hard to deal with and suddenly deadlines are coming up. It really makes it hard for me to manage both careers and be a mom too. But I would not change a thing. I just need a personal manager. 
5) Is there a genre you enjoy reading, but would not write?
I like to read historical romance. I was a history education major in college before law school. Writing historical romance takes more work than just using your imagination. You need historical accuracy. I really respect historical fiction writers. When I am retired from practicing law I may write this genre, but I would need much more free time.
6) What advice would you give to a new writer?
Polish your manuscript before submitting it. Also, take rejection in stride. Just keep on keeping on. And remember that you can learn a lot from a good editor.
7) Have you ever had writer's block? If so, what do you do about it?
Yes, I have it sometimes. Most recently I had writer's block due to a major trial I was working on. My brain can handle only so much it seems. Preparing for big trials and then spending hours each day in a courtroom can really shut me down creatively. The emotions involved in my type of work are also a creative flow blocker. Good thing I don't have too many difficult trials.
8 ) Who are some of your favorite authors?
Lora Leigh, Sherrilyn Kenyon, and Christine Feehan.
9) What do you do to relax?
I like to watch television, a good movie, and reading. I also enjoy going on vacation and sitting outside in the sun. I love long walks in the woods or on a beach. I enjoy sightseeing too. My parents own a farm with a large woods, it's fun to take a nice walk under the trees there.
10) Chocolate or vanilla, coffee or tea, Coke or Pepsi, dogs or cats, sunrises or sunsets?
Chocolate, coffee, and tea (I have discovered Teavana teas and teapots), Pepsi, dogs (I have two and another one on my parents' farm), and sunsets (not really a morning person).
11) Are you a collector of anything?
I collect dolls from other countries.
12) If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
To determine if a person is telling the truth or lying, to be a lie detector. Since I'm an attorney who protects children it would be an awesome power to know what is in the hearts of parents and custodians. It would help me make the best decisions and really protect the children.
13) If you could be any animal, what would you be?
I love wolves. I would be a wolf, just because I think Lycans are awesome. Lycans will be in one of my upcoming books in The Forsaken Series.
