Author Spotlight – Hazel Gower

1) How long have you been writing for the purpose of publication?
About ten months. I'm one of those writers who would write even if no one bought or published my books.

2) What's the shortest and/or longest amount of time it's ever taken you to complete a book?
Almost six months and it was Ava's Mate, the third book in my series. I have only finished it now.

3) Is there a certain time of the day that you tend to be more creative?
Night time is the best. When my kids are in bed, I can focus then.

4) Where is your favorite place to write?
On my lounge with my iPod on usually to 30 Seconds to Mars or Paramore.

5) What type of environment do you prefer when you write? (ie complete silence, background music, etc)
It depends on what I'm writing. For fight scenes I listen to Seether, Limp Bizkit, Sick Puppies, The Used, and early Offspring. For inspiration I listen to 30 Seconds to Mars or Paramore.

6) Are you plotter or a panser?
I try to be a plotter but it never works and I end up being a panser

7) What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books?
That my character bugs me until their story is written, some will talk even when I've finished their story. Faith, Kane, and Jamie are the worst.

8) What is the most difficult or challenging thing for you as a writer?
Getting my character voices down exactly how they want them to be.

9) Is there a genre you enjoy reading, but would not write?
This is hard, as I love historical and said I could never write one, but what do I know as I'm currently working on a time travel romance set in the fifteen hundreds. So never say never.

10) What advice would you give to a new writer?
Don't give up. Join writing groups.

11) Have you ever had writer's block? If so, what do you do about it?
Oh yes, I get writer's block but I call it more getting stuck. What do I do to get out of it? Well, many things…read a good book, watch anything with Jared Leto or Joe Manganiello.

12) Who are some of your favorite authors?
Oh, so many to choose from, J.R Ward, Lara Adrian, Christine Feehan, Patricia Briggs. But the reason I choose Beachwalk Press was because of Pepper Anthony, I loved her work and she talked about how good Beachwalk is.

13) What are you reading at the moment?
I just finished reading Given by Ashlynn Monroe.

14) What do you do to relax?
I write. With four kids under seven it truly is my salivation.

15) What's your favorite way to procrastinate?
That's easy—Facebook.

16) Chocolate or vanilla, coffee or tea, Coke or Pepsi, dogs or cats, sunrises or sunsets?
Chocolate. Hot chocolate. Dogs. Sunsets.

17) If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
To be able to heal anything. A healer

18) If you could be any animal, what would you be?
Easy one—a wolf.

19) What is your favorite body part of your characters?
Their eyes. I feel they are a window to the soul. So I have to get their eyes right in all my books. I myself have a weakness for bright sky blue eyes.
