Author Spotlight – E. Jamie

1) What is your writing schedule like?
It depends. I have a part time evil day job…that's actually during the evening so on days I work, I work from later morning/early afternoon until I have to head out. On days "off" (HA!) I usually start at the same time, late morning and just go later into the night.

2) Is there a certain time of the day that you tend to be more creative?
I'm useless in the mornings. I hear about writers who will get up at 4 AM to get some hours of writing in before work and I just shudder. I've done the full time day job thing for years and have always despised mornings with a lethal passion! My brain usually doesn't engage until 9 or 10 and even then, caffeine is a must. I'm most definitely a night owl. I will usually have no problem staying up until 1 or 2 AM writing, but getting up before Jesus and the Easter Bunny? No.

3) Where is your favorite place to write?
At my desk is ideal. My family got me this huge two piece desk with a shelf on top that I adore, but I have been known to write during breaks at work…though I will leave little boxes to indicate love scenes that I'm not brave enough to write in public view!

4) What type of environment do you prefer when you write? (ie complete silence, background music, etc)
I definitely need music to write or some kind of background noise. I can't write if it's quiet! My mind wanders and can't focus in quiet for some bizarre reason. Movie soundtracks, classical music, the TV. Many of my books have been written with either Supernatural, Friends, or soaps in the background.

5) What is the most difficult or challenging thing for you as a writer?
Setting! My editor for Strawberry Wine can attest to this. I have a tendency to write talking heads because dialogue is one of my strengths so I always have to go back and flesh scenes out but then I overcompensate by describing the color of every piece of furniture in the room.

6) Is there a genre you've never written, but you would like to try writing?
Just today I got an idea for a ménage romance which I've never done. It's the second idea I've gotten for a ménage so maybe the muse is trying to tell me something!

7) What are you reading at the moment?
J.R. Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood series. Oh my goodness but those are delicious! My best friend has raved about them for years, but I've never been too much into paranormals. When a coworker insisted I read them, I thought I'd give them a try. She's been supplying me with each book in the series so I guess we could call her my 'dealer'. That would be an example of a genre that I'm reading that I would probably never write in. Vampires. The amount of world building required for that…and me and setting….right, we don't need to go there again. But never say never!

8) What's your favorite way to procrastinate?
The internet is evil! Evil and wonderful all at the same time. I'm convinced YouTube is as successful as it is thanks to procrastinating writers everywhere.

9) Are you a collector of anything?

Congrats on the release of the book! I was wondering if you liked wine? If so, what kind? While you are writing to do have a favorite food/drink you snack on? What would you say is the most overused word in your writing?

  • Gigi says:

Got two of your titles already (redemption and the arrangement), but I think they melted the windows in this place :-). So I thought, how about a third one to set the building on fire?

  • E. Jamie says:

Hi Christine! I do enjoy wine. I particularly like white because it's like champagne and I loooove champagne. Lol. But I'll drink red too.
Ketchup chips are the food for my muse… not that I'd turn down chocolate of course!
Most overused word would have to be 'as' lol!

  • E. Jamie says:

Lol! Thanks Gigi!!! I'm so thrilled you loved Redemption and The Arrangement. The sequel to that one is coming on the 17th! If it's okay with the hosts I'll leave the contest open for tonight and pick a winner tomorrow, around noon?

  • E. Jamie says:

Eek, never mind, I just remembered the last bit about choosing a winner on April 12 which is even better! Lol. I'm fighting a cold so I'll blame the cold medication so keep those entries coming!

  • E. Jamie says:
