Author Spotlight – Aimée Duffy

1) How long have you been writing for the purpose of publication?
A couple of years. I started taking it seriously in the summer of 2011.

2) What's the shortest and/or longest amount of time it's ever taken you to complete a book?
I wrote The Monster of Fame in three weeks (just over 50,000 words) for Nano in 2011, but spent ages revising it. The longest I've taken to write a book is probably eight months. I had to rewrite the book. Twice.

3) What is your writing schedule like?
I squeeze in a few hours here and there when I can. Sunday mornings are when I get most of the words down though.

4) Is there a certain time of the day that you tend to be more creative?
Mornings. When I get up an hour before I'm supposed to I get more done in that hour than I would at night—and that's before my coffee!

5) Are you plotter or a panser?
I plotted The Monster of Fame, but pansed my way through Isle of Sensuality. The book I'm working on I had a plot for, but I'm pansing away from it. I guess it all depends. I like to know what the black moment is when I start writing and work toward that.

6) What is the most difficult or challenging thing for you as a writer?
Six months ago I'd have said writing the love scenes. Now it's cramming everything in around two jobs!

7) Is there a genre you enjoy reading, but would not write?
Crime Thrillers. I love Ian Rankin, Linwood Barclay, and Harlan Coben, but I don't think I'd be able to pull off a plot that twisty!

8) Is there a genre you've never written, but you would like to try writing?
I'd like to try my hand at YA and BDSM romance.

9) What do you think makes a good story?
Characters. If I love the protagonists I'll follow them wherever they go.

10) What's your favorite way to procrastinate?
Facebook, blogs, Twitter, Goodreads, Cosmo online, the list is endless. I rock at procrastination.

11) Chocolate or vanilla, coffee or tea, Coke or Pepsi, dogs or cats, sunrises or sunsets?
Chocolate, coffee, neither, cats, sunsets.

12) If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
The ability to see into the future. I'd concentrate on the stock markets really hard :)

13) What's your biggest pet peeve?
Moaning (yet I'm a winger myself…)
