Author Spotlight – Tamaria Soana

1) How long have you been writing for the purpose of publication?
Sixteen months ago the story idea for Obsession hit me and poured out of me.

2) What's the shortest and/or longest amount of time it's ever taken you to complete a book?
Obsession being my first, I wrote the original version which was 11,000 words in a month.

3) What is your writing schedule like?
It depends on the day. I'm a mom of young girls and my three year old demands my attention, so it's really hit and miss.

4) Is there a certain time of the day that you tend to be more creative?
In the morning.

5) Where is your favorite place to write?
Currently at my kitchen table. I do have a small corner of the rec room that is my 'office' but the lighting is horrible.

6) What type of environment do you prefer when you write? (ie complete silence, background music, etc)
I listen to music.

7) Are you plotter or a panser?
I try to outline, but it never works. I just let my characters lead me; after all, it's their story.

8 ) What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books?
That there is a huge amount of work that has to be done even after you finish your book and get a contract. I knew going in that being an author wasn't going to be easy. I guess for me it was surreal to watch Obsession become a stronger book with each round of edits.

9) What is the most difficult or challenging thing for you as a writer?
Patience, with me instant gratification even takes too long.

10) Is there a genre you enjoy reading, but would not write?
I really only read romance books, a few paranormals. I guess a paranormal; I don't think I could pull that off.

11) What advice would you give to a new writer?
I'm still very new to this, but my advice would be don't give up. The road to being published has many bumps and detours, but the journey is well worth it!

12) Who are some of your favorite authors?
Danielle Steel is by far my favorite author.

13) What are you reading at the moment?
I recently discovered a series called 1 Night Stand. It's a multi-author series that revolves around one matchmaker, Madam Eve. My dream would be to have a book in this series.

14) What do you do to relax?
I find reading very relaxing. I love curling up with my Kindle. Nothing compares to relaxing and reading a good book. It's the perfect escape. That's really how I came up with my tagline Relax… Read… Escape with Tamaria Soana. A few people asked why I put relax before read. I need to be relaxed and snuggled in before I open a book on my Kindle. Then hopefully the author will help me escape for a little while.

15) What's your favorite way to procrastinate?
LOL. Procrastinate is my middle name. Reading!

16) Chocolate or vanilla, coffee or tea, Coke or Pepsi, dogs or cats, sunrises or sunsets?
I love a good swirl, so both. Coffee. Pepsi. Dogs. Sunrise, because it signifies a new fresh day.

17) Are you a collector of anything?
I collect Willow Tree Angels

18) If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
I guess I'd want be all knowing.

19) If you could be any animal, what would you be?
An eagle, so I could soar free.

20) What's your biggest pet peeve?
People who lack basic common sense.
